Servicing your AC unit at home is a smart way to keep your home cool and save money. You don’t need to rely on an air conditioning service. The first thing you must do is dry out your AC.
Moisture could be inside if it’s been working hard for a long time. To remove it, turn on your AC to fan mode for 30 to 40 minutes. Then, switch it off and unplug it from the wall.
Next, open up the front part of the internal unit. You’ll see two filters that are probably dirty and dusty – that’s what you’ll clean. It’s possible to wash them with water. After you remove the filters, you’ll see the AC fins, which are also probably dusty. Use a special air blower or a vacuum cleaner to clean the dust off the fins.
Then, wash the two air filters and the bacteria filter with water. If the filters are dirty, you use a little bit of soap. After you wash them, find a place for them to dry completely. You can use a special AC cleaner and purifier, but that’s not required. This cleaner will kill bacteria and germs.
After you spray the cleaner on a metal part inside the AC, let it sit for 5 minutes. Then, put the filters back in and close up the front part of the AC unit. Now, use a cloth to wipe the inside of the AC. Plug it back in and turn it on high for 15 to 30 minutes. Doing so allows the AC to clean itself.
